Situated North of Phalaborwa, adjacent to the world famous Kruger National Park, the farm Silonque Sisters was a founder member of the Silonque Nature Conservancy. A wide variety of wild life exists naturally in close contact and at peace with a permanent human presence.
Positioned on a high rise in the otherwise flat lowveld landscape, spectacular Sun and Moon rises are experienced. From the Main House, the archaeological site of Masorini Mountain sits like a mystical pyramid on the horison, in a constantly changing landscape of colours. Sunsets over mountains, 150 km away, form a wondrous part of the day. At night, you can experience anything from the dazzling display of millions of stars on a clear night, to dramatic thunderstorms, to windstill nights when the Lion’s roar tells you, you are close the heart of this fascinating Continent.
The terrain includes a number of dry river systems, an outcrop of interesting rocks (koppie) typical of the region, natural crystals, stones and sands. Diverse plant life, including the famous Maroela and amazing Mopane trees, Knobthorn, Waggebietjie, Apple Leaf, Kannie Dood, Bush Willow, Tambotie, Leadwood, Rock Fig... a variety of flowers, grasses, herbs and ground covers... all co-exist under some incredible circumstances.
The Main House is a welcoming oasis that soon lures you into a relaxing mode, ready to pass out to the harmonious sounds of the African bush. The large en-suite bedrooms are all open out onto deep shadowed verandas, providing luxurious spaces and atmosphere in which to let the bush go by. Positioned on a high rise in the otherwise flat lowveld landscape, spectacular Sun and Moon rises are experienced.
Bed in the Bush is four-star graded and offers superior accommodation according to AA assessment.
The Owl House
Originally the cow sheds of a cattle farm, this charming cottage is called the ?Owl House? because when building alterations started, Owls were living there. Being a unique and private facility, the Owl House soon became the favourite of a number of regular visitors.
Comprising two bedrooms, two bathrooms, outside shower, two patios and kitchen, it sleeps 3 indoors but have on occasion catered for up to 10 people - some pitching a tent and others sleeping outside in the open on beautifully crafted cement benches. (under roof ? bring your own sleeping bags) From here, you can laze away the day while watching and listening to the weird and wonderful goings on of the wild.
The Bush Camp
It's a uniquely designed, African village style building in the middle of a glorious bush (Silonque Nature Conservancy). The Bush Camp is where traditional and modern elements have been beautifully combined in a house that feels like a 21st century African hut. Traditional blankets meet air-conditioned rooms; dung floors meet modern, silver-topped kitchens. Its been described as African Zen, which basically means its familiar yet other worldly and really hits the calm and quiet spots.
